Oregon State Police Fallen Trooper Memorial Run

Image
On Sunday, May 31st I ran the 4th annual Oregon State Police Fallen Trooper Memorial Run at Champoeg State Park, outside of St. Paul, Oregon.  The picture below captures how relieved and happy I was to cross the finish line. It was hot! I am turning into a lightweight when it comes to running in heat since living at Oregon Coast. I knew it was going to hot when I arrived at 8:30am the temperature was already 64 degrees! For me that is a hot day at the beach! I knew it was going to be sunny and warm so I made sure to hydrate, drinking Watermelon Nuun and Nuun's Plus the night before and the morning of. Sadly, it was not enough. My first three miles I was running at fast pace of me, then it went down hill from there as my body was not used to running in the heat. I have a relay race coming up next month and my first olympic triathlon late September. I am going to be incorporating running in warmer temperatures in the upcoming weeks otherwise the heat is going to kill me. The 10k ...

Bridge to Brew

Image
I apologize for taking so long getting this blog post together! Last month I ran the Bridge to Brew race in downtown Portland.  It was so much fun! I did this race back in 2013 with my sister, SIL and friends.  Then it was at a different location, at the Widmer Brothers Brewery. This year was much, much bigger! Like the last time I ran Bridges to Brew I got to spend the weekend with my BIL & SIL and see my nephews, always a treat! Mr. W was traveling shuttling Olivia to a weekend basketball tournament in Albany. I was super excited and surprised to see him standing at the finish line. He was able to snap these pictures of me as I crossed the finish line. I love Portland so much. The city has such a great vibe. The race was large. It took me almost five minutes to cross the start line once the race officially started. There were so many walkers it was difficult to maneuver around them. I knew this race wasn't going to be my best time. I was excited to have the oppo...

First Race of the Season: Lincoln City 10k & Half Marathon

Image
My first race of the season was yesterday, Lincoln City 10k & Half Marathon in Lincoln City. I did the 10k. It was a beautiful day for a run. No rain and a brisk 34 degrees at the start. All but one of my races has been without rain. Just one of the many joys of living in the Pacific Northwest! It is a nice sized event. Think small town event. The local Boy Scout troop hands out clam chowder after the race. The fire department's CERT team is out keeping runners safe during the race providing traffic control. 111 runners ran the 10k race and 177 runners ran the half marathon. Lots of walkers as well. The course is beautiful. It begins and ends at Wapiti Park, south of Lincoln City.  In the first mile there was a herd of elk by the road. Common occurrence here, thus the name of the park. I was able to blow past a bunch of people who were busy snapping pictures. My goal was to take this race easy. I ran this race last year and shortly after is when I started having issue...
